Qwerty was the first part of the Société's site to be constructed. These pages and their organization reflect our interest in understanding the relationship between the alphabetical organization of knowledge and a visual one. "Qwerty" refers to the standard organization of the keyboard, first constructed for manual typewriters and still the standard for most Western computer users.

This section of the site is presented in 27 pages, one for each letter of the English alphabet and one for roman numbers. Each of these pages contains buttons or images providing internal and external links. The external links are to pages on the World Wide Web which we feel are relevant to our studies and interests or which we feel demonstrate some interesting use of images on the web. The Société would like to emphasize that while these are all sites we have found to be of interest, the sites to which we link do not represent the views of the Société. Nor should a link be taken as any kind of endorsement of or agreement with the content of the sites to which they lead.

Our intent is to use icons and images as both cultural signifiers and semi-linguistic devices. Despite the alphabetical organization of these pages, the only information provided about the links are the images themselves..
